Holidays are near! Attend your union meetings!
Honolulu-Aloha brothers and sisters, and for those who share this with all of our family, extended family and friends: We have our second annual IBEW LOCAL 1186 “Saving Lives” Blood Drive coming up, on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at St. Louis School!
If you have never donated before, and are thinking about it, please make the decision today to save up to three lives by donating blood.
Did you know:
The Blood Bank of Hawaii needs 200 donors every day to maintain Hawaii’s blood supply.
• One donation of whole blood can save three lives.
• A single car accident can require up to 100 pints of blood.
• There is a national shortage of blood donors, so we need to build a consistent local supply.
Some FAQs:
Q: But…I just had a tattoo a few months ago. So I cannot donate, right?
A: Incorrect! You CAN still donate IF:
-You received your tattoo from a state-regulated tattoo shop (Hawaii is a regulated state)
BUT … there is a 1-year waiting period if:
Your tattoo was done in an unlicensed or unregulated tattoo shop or if you had a traditional Hawaiian or Polynesian tattoo done with reusable bone needles
Q: But I’m taking medications, so that means I can’t donate, right?
A: Incorrect! You can still donate while taking many medications. Check the medication deferral list on bbh.org
Q: But I just got vaxxed/boosted – so I cannot donate, right?
A: Incorrect! There is no waiting period for COVID or Flu vaccines
Q: Can I donate if I had COVID?
A: Yes, if you have tested positive, or have been in close contact with a COVID-19 carrier, do not donate blood for 10 days after either your test or complete resolution of symptoms.
Qualifications to donate blood:
Be in good health
Be 16+ years old*
Weigh at least 110 pounds**

There are so few reasons why NOT to donate blood, and so MANY reasons why you should. It could be you or a family member who one day needs blood. Keep our supply going in Hawaii!
To add to that, we are providing lunch and a t-shirt to every donor, as well as if you are our #IBEWLocal1186 member, we will enter you in a raffle when you make an appointment to donate (even if you get deferred on day of donation), or REFER another friend or family member. Make sure you or the donor calls Mike P at 808.342.5069 to provide YOUR name so that you can get credit for the donation. MOST IMPORTANTLY, use our special donor code #3040 so that we can hit our goal for this drive! We cannot do it without you! If you would like to schedule with the Blood Bank of Hawaii directly (808-848-4770 or bbh.org), and cannot make it on August 13th, don’t forget to use donor code #3040, and get in touch with Mike (contact ph# above) so that he can make sure you are entered in our raffle.
Help us save lives this summer, and make your appointment for our drive (or another date that works for you) today!
